Labor Day is a United States federal holiday observed on the first Monday in September. It celebrates the economic and social contributions of American worker who creates the economic growth, leadership and strength that the United States is built upon.
Because Labor Day creates a three-day weekend and is the last major holiday before the onset of autumn, it has come to be celebrated by most Americans as the symbolic end of the summer. In high society, Labor Day is (or was) considered the last day of the year when it is fashionable to wear white or seersucker.
